Meet Christine

Based in Korumburra, in the beautiful hills of South Gippsland, Victoria, you will find me roaming in my garden, or playing in my kitchen.  I have been making my own bread and cheese for about 25 years, and love to cook, and to share my food and passion with everyone around me!

There is a particular satisfaction that comes when you have grown the food directly and then cooked it in your kitchen. I love to make delicious food from scratch, using homegrown, local and seasonal produce.  This gives a very strong connection to the earth, and a wonderful pleasure in creating something magical in your own kitchen.  It is this joy that I try to impart to everyone that comes to my classes, as well as learning new skills that will enable them to be far more self-sustainable and be able to re-create some wonderful foods at home.

As a registered nurse I appreciate the benefits of nutrition, wholesome eating and a balanced diet. My career has allowed me to explore food and health in some really inventive ways and to get back to nature with homegrown, authentic, memorable food.

Soul Food

My friends describe my cooking as simple soul food from the garden. I pack my recipes with fresh, local and homegrown ingredients and let these flavours come to life in a variety of great dishes. I also love to teach my customers about the art of slow food. In the hectic world we live, we can sometimes barely get a pizza in the oven. I want to make it easy for everyone to create delicious homecooked food that is packed with goodness AND compliments even the busiest lifestyle.

Community

I am associated with Grow Lightly Food Sustainability Hub, a non-profit community produce shop that supports local organic growers, and only sells produce that is grown/produced within 60km of Korumburra.  What I don’t grow, I source from here.  I also use local Bass River Dairy milk for all my cheeses.  Green Living Australia is my main supplier, and if you require something that is not listed in my shop, I am happy to source it for you.  As a local supplier, this will save you freight if you don’t need the product posted.
